Pressed Ceramic Filter

Pressed ceramic filters or cellular ceramic filters are used for filtering ferrous and non-ferrous castings. Pressed ceramic filters are produced by taking refractory materials and either extruding or pressing into finely divided individual channels, often resembling a honeycomb shape. Pressed ceramic filters have a high dimensional accuracy ensuring a proper fit for every mold. Cellular filters prevent inclusions and control flow rate by diverting the metal stream into very small streams through the filter. Filtration occurs by two mechanisms, physically removing particles more prominent than the cell openings and chemically attracting particles smaller than the cell opening.
